A Reasonable Facsimile of Me

| Jul. 16th, 2008 04:48 pm Musings on the beach... The beach is hotter than you think.
People are weird..."Look, this land here, it floods every few years when crazy storms with huge winds come in and destroy everything! What should we do??" "I've got it...we'll put the houses....ON STILTS! DONE!" Weird.
Sunburn makes you tired.
Also, beer makes you tired.
Why is the ocean sooooo big? What's the point?
I wonder how far I'm actually seeing?
Turns out, jellyfish don't matter. Sandfleas will kill you.
Everyone turns out when the little sea skates show up! Also, don't touch the bottom.
The Great Elevator Outage of 2008...9 floors...sucks.
Staying in the penthouse does not make you special. It just means that sleep a little higher.
Pools are for sand washing. 4 comments - Leave a comment

| Jul. 7th, 2007 01:30 am Oh puppy... Bandit gave me a right little scare today. I got home from work to find him, as usual, asleep in one of his three doggie beds (we have one on each level of the house, so as to not make him go up and down stairs too many times a day). Since he is mostly completely deaf, I usually wake him by tapping the bed a little with my foot...he startles awake if you actually touch him, usually, and his old little puppy heart doesn't need anymore shocks. Anyway, I shook the bed once, no reaction. This is odd, he usually pops right up. So I shake it again...nothing! I basically cause his bed to have a small earthquake. Not a movement. I'm obviously worried and basically just like "oh man, not now...not while I'm all alone here...." So, I go in for the last try..reaching down to actually shake him awake with my hand, sure that he'll be cold, but he's warm. So, I shake, then shake harder, and finally, he opens his eyes and pops right up like usual.
Geez....having an old dog is madness...he must have been REAAAALLY asleep... 1 comment - Leave a comment

| Jul. 5th, 2007 09:04 pm Oh little old man... Today, an 84 year old man amused us with endless stories about old cars, gangsters that he's had contact with, and the shinanigans of his youngest son, who owed a drug dealer $10k for weed. He, the old man, told the dealer to f-off, and never heard from him again.
Finally, his oil was changed and he left, but the hour or two he was there were very entertaining indeed. I particularly liked the ones about Al Capone and a friend of his who fixed one of the guy's cars who was in the Valentine's Massacre only a week after passing through Louisville with prohibition contraband on his way to Chicago and needing repairs.

| Jun. 30th, 2007 12:20 am Russian... I work with two people who speak Russian. One, Alex, is a mechanic, and is actually from Russia, I think. I also think he's going to medical school at UofL, so that's interesting.
The other is Abdulla, and, if I recall correctly, he's from one of those "-stan" countries near Russia. I don't remember which one. He's going to Sullivan for business stuff.
They have Russian friends who come in and hang out in the bays and constantly get stuff done to their cars. They speak in Russian all the time. Russian is kind of a fun language to listen to. German sounds angry, French sounds pretty, and Russian sounds like everything is some sort of inside joke! I don't know if this is because of the phrasing and emphasis of the language, or perhaps they are mostly telling inside jokes when they are speaking Russian...who can say? Certainly not me.
I wonder if they knew each other before they both started working there...and that's how they both got on? Because otherwise, isn't that quite a coincidence?
(Also...Alex is kinda cute...but that's neither here nor there...being a gay guy in the mechanic shop provides some decent eye candy all over the place, really! Of course, not that I could ever tell anyone there...lol)
Gay moments aside, male bonding is soooo weird! lol Leave a comment

| Jun. 28th, 2007 11:55 pm Fun times... Our power went out at work today in the monsoon weather. It was out for about an hour. It got really hot in the store. I swept the floor to pass the time. Then we were behind for the rest of the day. But the air conditioning was back on, so it was ok.
Then I drove quickly to my parents' house, changed, then quickly back to my apartment to get my free ticket pass, then quickly to the theatre, saw Live Free or Die Hard with DC and Ken, then used our free ticket passes from our screwed up Spiderman 3 movie (it messed up towards the beginning, not that it sucked really bad) to buy tickets for the midnight Harry Potter! Yay!
Good times abound! Leave a comment

| Jun. 27th, 2007 11:04 pm Everything changes... So, now, change is coming quickly.
I'll hopefully have a job teaching, three of my favorite people are leaving Louisville, I'm moving, other people are moving, person who has been gone is coming back.
I've never been completely comfortable with change. And yet, I feel, for some reason, these changes are somehow going to be for the better...for a lot of people, I guess. People going to graduate school, people reuniting, people moving forward, new adventures, new friends, new...ways of living!
I just want everyone to be happy, and I think steps are being taken by all for this...well done everyone! Lily is attacking me!!!
Madness...but all for the better... Leave a comment

| Jun. 22nd, 2007 12:06 am Huh... So, working at Goodyear is much more fun and entertaining than I have would have expected. The hours are nice, too, since I don't have to be in until 10am, I can stay up a little late, which I've always favored. I certainly enjoy it much more than having to be there at 4am :P. I get to deal with people a lot, which I love, and the co-workers are all surprisingly fun...much more so than I had expected of mechanics and such. I'm still learning their god-awful computer systems, but they're not too bad, and I can do the pretty routine things on my own now. I also spend a lot of time driving the Goodyear truck around in errands...picking up tires from other stores, delivering tires, picking up or dropping off customers, that kind of thing. Not too shabby for $9/hr.
It's been a very hectic week for me. I went from doing nothing the last few weeks while job hunting to a full time job, then Bryan Scary and Shredding Tears came into town again, played a fabu concert here...I'm so happy they did Ceiling on the Wall!!! That was fun. Then, Wednesday night was The Lion King with my family and Will, since Lisa has stayed up too late partying with the Tears the night before...Will got along with my family quite well, which was nice...lol. The Lion King was fantastically cool! Visually masterful and such! I was particularly impressed with how they did the stampede...
In the mail today, I got a letter from Bellarmine, which basically is a conditional acceptance, the condition being that they receive my recommendation letter from Dr. Klueber. I have no idea what is taking her so long...I'm going to email her AGAIN tomorrow. She really needs to get that done, right!?? But, yay for conditional acceptances! It seems my plans are working out again!
I went to my parents' for visiting and laundry tonight after work. It was alright...my mom is considering Lap-band surgery, which we spent some time talking about. She wants to make a good hard attempt of losing weight on her own first, which I think is the best idea...I don't think she'll survive with only eating 2 ounces of food/meal. Food is waaaaaaay to important to the Staubles, this is a known fact...I obviously have my own issues. Bah, I need to lose weight too...bah for weight being so hard to lose and yet so easy to gain!
Our A/C in the apartment was freezing up and broken-ish. But it's fixed now, because our apartment complex is the best...I'm going to miss it, and the quick response times and such.
Alrighty! almost bed time? who knows! 1 comment - Leave a comment
